More downlink from the spectrum you already own

Carrier-aggregation parameters chosen across a cluster of cells on a live mobile network: average downlink throughput about 10% higher with no radio hardware added, in a limited trial area. Delivered through our platform network with a quantum-inspired optimiser.

Impact

More throughput, no new radio hardware
Baseline: the network operator’s previous carrier-aggregation settings
Condition: average downlink throughput about +10% on the live network, limited trial area
Secondary cells carry more
Baseline: the previous settings
Condition: secondary-cell data volume up to +50%; an upper bound from the trial

The problem

An operator wanted more capacity from the spectrum it already holds. Carrier-aggregation settings are tuned cell by cell with vendor features and by hand, and the interactions between cells are where throughput is lost.

Our approach

The parameter choice across the cluster was written as one optimisation problem and solved with a quantum-inspired optimiser in our platform network; the settings were applied on the live network in a limited trial area and the throughput measured against the previous configuration.

The evidence

  • Average downlink throughput about +10%; secondary-cell data volume up to +50%; no added hardware; limited trial area. Quantum-inspired optimiser.
  • Field proof of concept on a live network, 2025.
  • Not claimed: a network-wide figure, or any quantum-hardware contribution.

Status: Platform network. Delivered through our platform network; quantum-inspired optimisation; field proof of concept; quoted with its published conditions.
